Bittersweet

Bittersweet is always a sign of Autumn for me. My first introduction to bittersweet was when I was a guest at someone's house over the Thanksgiving holiday. The house was a beautiful antique Cape decorated with exquisite artwork and fine antiques.

Against the formality of the interiors and of the beautiful appointed Thanksgiving table, bittersweet draped the dining room fireplace mantle. Its simplicity was graceful and elegant. It taught me how the simplest of things, especially in nature, can be the most breathtaking.

Wild Peaches

We picked peaches from our peach tree this morning. In pajamas and rubber boots, we made our way to the bent branches laden with golden summer fruit.

Although peach trees are cultivated, it felt as if we were picking something wild as this tree has grown on its own volition for many years.

Its limbs are lopsided, its trunk bending, and the fruit are perfectly imperfect.

We walked away with about a dozen or so of these fabulous wild peaches.

How will my garden grow?

Who knew that planning for landscape can be so difficult.  I truly am jealous of landscape architects and their level of knowledge about plantings and layering of live materials.  I am currently scouring nurseries in the So. Cal area looking for the perfect pieces to add to my garden now that the pool project is almost complete.  We need trees like crazy that will shield us from nosy passersby but keep their leaves for year round green and such.   Needless to say I have bought not one tree but many varieties of Hydrangea have made it home with me for my shade garden.  I love the Magnolia trees and I think I finally found the one I was searching for with the pink flower.. now the question is where to put her and should I buy more than one?  Any advice is greatly appreciated as I know there are some really great gardeners out there with a wealth of knowledge (please share).  Here are a few of the beautiful things I have come across in the past weeks while trying to find just the right thing!

greige and butterflys...

From a beautiful Parisian apartment comes a dreamy bath with a mix of greige and grey along with lovely butterflys.. Oh how I dream of my own Paris apartment.  I love the height that they use in the space- perfection really.

Fall weekend in the Central Coast

We had a wonderful fall weekend on our visit to the Central Coast.  It makes me so happy to spend a little bit of time in the country.  There is always a lot to see and many places to stop.  We like to visit as many places as possible, this time we squeezed in at least 3 days worth of activity into one and a half.  These sweet big guys were just outside the entrance to Remnants of the Past.  I love horses, such beautiful animals!
We managed to get to the Avila Barn to pick up some pumpkin bread and other goodies, the See Canyon apple farm for pumpkins and the yummiest apples, as well as the show and food in San Luis Obispo.
Tomorrow I will show you all the fun we had at the show....

Fair Fall

Were going for a walk later on and Ill see if I can get some nice photos. Theres no Sun here though, so they probably wont be as beautiful as this one, of Mount Fuji in Japan.

Enjoy your day!

Im at the end of the line. Or at the beginning..

Is this route 66? I imagine it is. I come to think of all of those road trip movies Ive seen and this is what I remember most; the long, never ending roads in stone deserts. I really, really want to travel that road! Ive heard its not what it was, but who cares.

Ive driven California 1. It was a-a-amazing. Nothing less. Hearst Castle, Carmel, Monterey, Santa Barbara, the beautiful Bixby Creek Bridge. And the view.. oh, the view of the Pacific Ocean!

Route 66 doesnt have that view. Nevertheless, its on my list.

This photo makes me think of something else too. Im standing there. By the rocks. Ive put those miles of roads behind me now. Ive finished my Swedish course and Im ready for the University. I dont know what road to take, though. I cant see it yet. And I know that as soon as I pass all of those rocks therell be miles and miles of more road ahead. I guess Ill just have to put my walking boots on and start marching.

Happy Wednesday to you!
