weekend discoveries...

Abigail Ahern

One, you guys are the best. Thanks a million for your advice about my old pine doors.  Most of you said keep the paint on, which was my first thought, too. But a good many of you said the paint definitely needs to go. I think the best suggestions were to hang the doors, live with them awhile, then decide. Your comments brought home the fact that the paint remnants look more rustic and cottage-y while the stripped doors look more refined, sophisticated. Thanks for helping me crystalize that thought.

And two, Nate Berkus knows what's up. Did you see his goodies on the One Kings Lane Sale Saturday?

Look at this baby:

ok, ok, mine's missing a knob.
guess that makes it worth only $3,000

vintage medical cabinet perfection...

house beautiful

When I posted about the vintage stainless steel medical cabinets I found up for auction last week, I had forgotten about this beautiful bathroom by Betty Lou Phillips. Could that cabinet be any more perfect? or perfectly filled?

Well, here's how it went at the auction: I really wanted those pieces but so did a very good friend of mine. Do you remember Diane's lake house? Diane knew those would be awesome in her place at the lake. So we did the only thing we could do...split them up - each promising the other 'first dibs' if we later changed our minds.

I think we are both happy. She got the piece with the cabinets and drawers, kinda like the one pictured above, and I got the piece with the shelves.

Mine looks exactly like this one from Modernicus. You can follow the link to see their price.

Once I get mine all set up, I hope to have a photo or two for you. And we are lucky enough to know the history of these pieces, too. They are from the dental offices on the Marine Corps base at Parris Island, SC.

Thank you so much for all your comments and encouragements about these pieces on my original post. We ended up paying $300 for each piece. Not too bad, I think...

vintage stainless steel medical cabinets

Bear with me a minute folks - I'm gonna get all quirky on you. I've just discovered two vintage stainless steel medical cabinets set to go up for a local charity auction this weekend.
I HAVE TO HAVE THEM.
They look pretty much like the pieces in the first and second images. And they are in perfect condition. I'm thinking the second piece would make one heck of a cool bar...

People, how much do I pay for them...?

I am so excited thinking I might actually get them...

And speaking of quirky, I'd like to thank Artie Vanderpool  for my cool new blog header.   Oh, wait...it's my header that's quirky, not Artie. He totally 'got' me right away, is very reasonably priced,  and was so much fun to work with.  I'd totally recommend him if you are looking for something new. Thanks, Artie.
