Pink month starts tomorrow!

October already, tomorrow. And that means we go Pink again. Its time for the annual Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Theres a ton of things you can buy to contribute. Heres a few.

This years Swedish Pink Ribbon is designed by Lena Philipsson and Per Holknekt. It can be purchased at, amongst others, Lindex, who also has this pretty bracelet. The ribbon cost SEK 25 and the bracelet SEK 75. Im getting both!

The Swedish Crown Princess Victoria wore both the ribbon and bracelet yesterday, when she visited Radiumhemmet at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, to mark the start of pink month.

Jennifer Aniston in newest Allure

Question: Jennifer Aniston turned 42 just the other day. In the latest Allure shes styled to look like a teenager. Whats up with that? Age crises (like me)? Why didnt they style her the age she actually is? Lets face it, shes one of the most beautiful 42 year olds Ive ever seen. But is that really a reason to make her look like a child? Irritating and frustrating. Shes contributing to the strange ideals women struggle with today. Have a look.

Oh well

Last night they sent a new Swedish documentary about Wikileaks / Julian Assange. First of all; I totally agree with his philosophy. All classified information must out to the people. We have a right to know whats going on behind closed doors, which the videos shown clearly prove. I got a stomach and heart ache when I saw it. I nearly cried when I heard how they bragged about killing innocent people in Bagdad. They didnt care whether it was children or grown ups.

American authorities demanded that Wikileaks returned all their information immediately and its of course obvious why; they dont want the world to know how their soldiers really act inhuman and evil and show what video games and being a long way from the consequences of killing means. It does something with them. They lose their sense of understanding what a human life is worth. They dont give a damn. Simple as that. They should be prosecuted and get  death sentences or at least life in prison for what theyve done.

And honestly, I dont believe a word of what Assange is being accused of. I think these women has been bought to stop him from doing what he does. Thats politics for you. Thats how people with power act. Thats how it works. Hes done nothing wrong but shared with us information. And that is not illegal!

Now, I guess youve all heard it. Stockholm was attacked. Of course it was terrorism, even if the police wont confirm it. It doesnt take a genius to figure that out! Luckily he didnt really succeed in what he planned to do. No one died but him. Ironic. But of course the country is in chock. We thought we lived in a country that would never experience terror. We thought we lived so far away from all that. Were just a small, unimportant place up in the north. We were wrong. And now it will never be the same. It may very well happen again. All the Nordic countries are suddenly at risk. A terrorist attack could happen at any time. Theres no way of knowing.

The fact that he did it on a Sunday, two weeks before Christmas when a huge amount of people were out shopping, on the most crowded place in Stockholm shows the evil behind it. I doubt he was alone. And as the CIA sad, if Al-Qaida takes responsibility we are definitely screwed. In that case we are suddenly side by side to London and New York.

Im worried!

Risky business

Okay, so he (Assange) turned himself in. Risky or smart? Time will tell.

Good morning world

Two things get my attention these days. The Swedish train chaos and Julian Assange.

Sometime during the year, Swedish train company, SJ/Trafikverket told us they were investing 200 000 000 Swedish kroner to avoid last years winter chaos with uncountable train delays and stops and what not. They promised it would definitely not happen this winter.

What happens?

During the first days of this seasons first snow the exact same problems occur. Accidents happen. They are unable to handle the ice and the snow that fasten on the rail and the traffic delays hours and hours, if its not simply cancelled, and its a risk and a chance to take the train anywhere these days. And of course, nobodys willing to take the responsibility. SJ blames Trafikverket and vice versa.

SJ

And this year, the solution simply was to have less trains going to and from. Obviously that cost 200 000 000

SJ

Its just amazing how the snow and wind seem to come as a big surprise every year. Its like theyve never had to deal with it before. Its astonishing!

Julian Assange This somewhat unknown person who thinks the world has a right to know what our governments are really about, and lets us know it. Really lets us know. So much that it explodes around him and suddenly hes wanted for rape and espionage and what not. Now just about all countries want him, bank accounts are closed and he is at risk of being killed.

Julian Assange

It pisses me off. And it probably makes all the powerful people out there want to pee in their pants. Theyre so afraid of their power being taken away from them, and being exposed to what theyve done, and they will go to any length to avoid it.

Im not surprised.

I hope they never find him. I hope Wikileaks continues to let us know. I hope the politicians get what they deserve. I hope the corruption and the Ill be your friend if youll be mine game comes to an end.

Iconic photographs

I have a thing for pictures that tell a story, and there are many of them. The stories they tell are appalling and shocking, heartbreaking and sad. They show a world of starvation, war, heartlessness and pure evil. They show the harsh reality so many people live in and though we might not want to see this side of life, I recon its important to know theyre out there.

Although we might not be able to help them it might help us to be more grateful for what we actually have ourselves.

The afghan girl, picture shot by National Geographic photographer Steve McCurry. Sharbat Gula was one of the students in an informal school within the refugee camp; McCurry, rarely given the opportunity to photograph Afghan women, seized the opportunity and captured her image. She was approximately 12 years old at the time. She made it on the cover of National Geographic next year, and her identity was discovered in 1992.

This photograph has become synonymous with The Battle of Gettysburg, which was the most bloody battle of the American Civil War. Photographer Timothy H. OSullivan documented and recorded the battlefield, and this picture became a sensation.

For many, this was their first chance to see, first hand, the true extent of the Civil War. However, it was not until 40 years after the battle that the pictures were mass produced, as photo-engraving had not been established. The picture shows dead confederate soldiers on the battlefield.

Battle of Gettysburg

Alberto Korda took this picture of Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara, titled Guerrillero Heroico or Heroic Guerrilla. It shows Che, as he was known, at a memorial service for victims of the La Coubre explosion.

Despite being one of the most reproduced images in history, Korda, a lifelong Communist and supporter of the Cuban Revolution, claimed no payment for his picture.

Che Guevara

Lawrence Beitler took this iconic photograph on August 7, 1930, showing the lynching of Thomas Shipp and Abram Smith, two young black men accused of raping a white girl.. It sold thousands of copies, which Beitler stayed up for 10 days and nights printing them.

It has become iconic over the years as it is one of the best and most recognisable images of lynching which at the time was commonplace, but now serves only as a reminder of the pre-Civil Rights era.

The photo shows a crowd that have turned out to view the lynching, and the audience a mixture of anger and fulfilment. The photo was so popular it has been the inspiration for many poems and songs down the years, Strange Fruit by the Jewish poet Abel Meeropol (later sung by Billie Holiday) being the best example.

Lynching of Thomas Shipp and Abram Smith

Possibly the most talked-about, debated and controversial picture in history, the picture of the moon landing has been seen as a feat of human engineering at its best, and has been speculated as a hoax by contractors of the event.

Those in doubt of the authenticity of the picture have come up with many suggestions as to why and how it might have been faked. However, none of the accusations have been proved correct and the debate continues in some circles.

The American flag installs national pride in the US as the winners of the so-called Space Race, and their establishment as the worlds one remaining super power.

This photo of a naked and terrified young girl running towards Pulitzer prize-winning photographer Nick Ut has entered popular culture as a symbol of the horror of the Vietnam War. It was taken during the American bombing of the village of Trang Bang, Vietnam.

It is said that this photo ended the war in Vietnam and served as an icon for the peace movement that was prevalent in the 1970s.

Napalm Strike

Often considered the most iconic photograph in history, tank man or the unknown rebel shows an act of courage and defiance and earned the anonymous man widespread fame.

It took place during the protests at Beijings Tiananmen Square on June 5, 1989, and has subsequently become a symbol of the end of the Cold War era, and one of the most famous photographs of the 20th century. Four people claim to have took photos of the event, but the most reproduced image, and the most famous was by Jeff Widener.

Kevin Carter's photo shows a heart-breaking scene of a starving child collapsed on the ground, struggling to get to a food center during a famine in the Sudan in 1993. In the background, a vulture stalks the emaciated child. It is a horrific picture that gave people a true look at the dire condition in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Carter was part of a group of four fearless photojournalists known as the "Bang Bang Club" who travelled throughout South Africa capturing the atrocities committed during apartheid.

He won a Pulitzer Prize for this work and came under a lot of scrutiny for spending over 20 minutes setting up the photo instead of helping the child. Three months after taking the photo, he committed suicide.

I have seen this picture several times through the years and it touches my heart more and more each time. It brings tears to my eyes and my heart aches for this little, helpless girl.

Vulture Stalking a Child

This image of a child in Uganda holding hands with a missionary shows big contrast between the two people and serves as a reminder of the difference in wealth between developed and developing countries.

Mike Wells, the photographer, took this picture to show the extent of starvation in Africa. He took it for a magazine, and when they went 5 months without printing it, he decided to enter it into a competition. However, Wells has stated that he is against winning a competition with a picture of a starving boy.

Photographer Eddie Adams took this picture of the execution of Nguy?n Van Lm by Nguy?n Ng?c Loan during the Vietnam War. Adams later apologized in person to General Nguyen and his family for the irreparable damage it did to Loans honour while he was alive.

Picture from an Einsatzgruppen soldiers personal album, labelled on the back as Last Jew of Vinnitsa, it shows a member of Einsatzgruppe D is just about to shoot a Jewish man kneeling before a filled mass grave in Vinnitsa, Ukraine, in 1941. All 28,000 Jews from Vinnitsa and its surrounding areas were massacred at the time.

Fee

I really love the US with its stunning nature and exciting cities, but honestly, a fee of USD 10 for visa-waiver countries, entering the country, starting on September 8? Isnt that a bit extreme, not to mention arrogant? Do they even want tourists coming and spending money, contributing to the countrys poor economy?

Just saying.

California allows same-sex marriage

Good morning to you all. Long time no see.

Its early August and the temperature has gone down to 10 degrees Celsius. Christmas is only four months away. ;-)

Glorious news this morning. California is finally allowing gay marriages.  The case is probably going to wind up in the Supreme Court but still, its a step in the right direction. Both sides have until Friday to submit their answer to the decision.

Same-sex marriage is currently legal in five U.S. states and in the District of Columbia, while civil unions are permitted in New Jersey. The five states are Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, Iowa and New Hampshire.

Oh, and another thing: how cool is this?

Does it ever end?

Again and again theres trouble with the Swedish trains. I dont even know why I chanced on booking my home trip next Saturday, by train. So stupid!

Did you know?

Today, on July 20, it is exactly 41 years ago, since Neil Armstrong, Edwin Eugene "Buzz" Aldrin and Michael Collins with Apollo 11, was the first humans ever to walk on the Moon. They landed in the area Sea of Tranquillity. Armstrong and Aldrin spent 21 hours and 31 minutes on the lunar surface while Collins orbited above in the command ship.

They returned to Earth with 47.5 pounds (21.55 kilograms) of lunar rocks and landed in the Pacific Ocean on July 24.

The lunar module was named Eagle for the national bird of the United States, the bald eagle, which is featured prominently on the mission insignia. The command module was named Columbia for the feminine personification of the United States used traditionally in song and poetry.

After the astronauts planted a U.S. flag on the lunar surface, they spoke with President Richard Nixon through a telephone-radio transmission which Nixon called "the most historic phone call ever made from the White House."

And of course this was when Armstrong uttered the famous words: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind".

Rape condom

The South African doctor, Sonnet Ehlers has invented a condom that feels like a knife when penetrating. It is supposed to prevent rapes. Or at least make the rapist come to a hospital afterwards, which will make it easier to arrest him. The condom can only be removed by a doctor.

I can understand the idea. But somehow it doesnt hold up. Wont it make the woman feel more vulnerable and afraid when always reminded of the risk? And what if she actually want to have intercourse, shell have to visit a doctor first and afterwards shell have to go to a doctor again to put it back in. Seems complicated.

Kind of a bad idea, if you ask me.

Good morning

Woke up at six. It has become a habit lately, but its okay, the sun is shining, its seven degrees outside. For now. Itll probably get higher during the day and thats perfect since Im visiting a friend with a garden. Well sit out there and talk about all and nothing while her lovely cat hunts flies and birds and ants. Im bringing fruit and shes got coffee. I cant wait!

The day before yesterday I sunned in solarium and hm.. perhaps I shouldnt have sunned as long as half an hour the first time this spring. Today Im kind of red. I never learn. I want to get color as fast as possible and end up like a lobster the first couple of times. Anyone else have that problem?

Todays news: In a hospital in Barcelona, Spain a man got a full facial transplant after a shooting accident destroyed his face. Its the first time ever the doctors have succeeded in this. The man couldnt breath, eat or swallow before but now he has facial muscles, skin, nose, lips, upper and lower jaw, teeth, palate and cheek bones.

The operation was done on the 20th of March and more than 30 nurses, doctors, surgeons and assistants participated. They operated for 24 hours before the man had his new face.

He has seen the results and is happy with it.

Todays news

Octomum feels guilty over having her eight children. No, really? What a surprise..

Swedish Crown Princess Victoria gets criticized for wanting her father to give her away. Her traditional thinking provokes women liberators and suddenly the very modern Victoria is said to be unmodern and a destroyer of the fight for the liberation of women. What they dont reflect over is that perhaps she has a mind of her own and has made a conscious choice to be given away. I get so fed up over this fight that clearly goes too far at times, it has almost become pathetic and tiring. In Sweden anyway. Get over yourselves and let women chose for themselves!

And finally, an old Swedish couple whos lived together for 63 years is now forced into separate homes by authorities. It sickens me! How can people be so cruel? How can they live with themselves? It makes me really really hope that they themselves be forced from their loved one the final years of their life. Again; sickening!
